Jan. 12th, 2011 08:48 pmIt's unseasonably warm, and the waiters of a Tenth Ave diner dragged a dozen tables out onto the sunny sidewalk. I find a table, sit down and order a Californian - turkey and avocado on whole wheat toast, and a glass of iced tea. The sun is very bright, the sidewalk tables are crowded, it's a popular spot on this April afternoon, and the waitress is taking her time, but I don't mind. Two young men with a bouncy young dog on a leash take the table to my right, the waiter brings their menus and a large water bowl, this place is obviously dog-friendly. I squint in the sun, slowly eat my sandwich and flirt with the dog. She wags her tail, enjoying the attention. I tell the guys that she is very well behaved, and they smile, obviously pleased, and say that they try, they try. There is lots of time until my bus, and if I miss it, there is another one in an hour, and then another...
